Making a great tool even better!

Radio Control

Radio Control ScreenshotThis program solves two quirks with Treo Communicators. The first is the fact that the radio (wireless mode) is always off after a soft-reset, which can be annoying if the user forgets this feature. The first choice the program gives the user is whether or not they want the radio to come on after a reset.

The second function of the program allows the user to set an on and off time for the radio. This allows the user to have the radio come on or turn off at specific times, a great way to save batteries if you're not expecting calls for a certain period each day. Clicking "Clear" sets both times to "Never".

You may download it freely here.

Option: mute sound & light?

Hi Chris, I'm not sure if you're still reading this page, but if you do, then may I repeat a suggestion which probably would be easy to implement but greatly improve Radio Control:

Would it be possible to include a mute option for the Treo 650's system sound & light that occur when Radio Control turns the GSM module on and off? It's a bit disturbing with your Treo lying on your bedside locker and the GSM module waking up the whole family in the middle of the night by playing it's little melody and iluminating the dark room when RC switches it off automatically ;)

Great little tool,

Great little tool, thanks. Does exactly what it should.

700p

Chris,

Hoping that you will put out a version for the 700P. I had RC on my 650 and loved it and would like to have it for my 700P. Think this will happen and if so, when?

Getting RC to work - 650

Hi Chris. I'm enthusiastically looking forward to using RC on my new 650. I have downloaded it, but it doesn't seem to be functioning properly. With each reset, it resets RC's setting to "Off" and the radio never comes on.

I am only trying to use the "With Reset" capability, and have left the "On" and "Off" settings at "Never."

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

eg

Turn off Bluetooth also

Wouldn't it be nice if the program can turn off the bluetooth RF on scheduled time too?

Treo 650 with SIM Password

My Treo 650 hangs when RadioControl is set to start the radio after soft reset.

I am guessing that it could be because my phone has a SIM password, and the application doesn't allow me to get to enter my pin.

Maybe something to test for the next release.

Option for Stay on if Plugged in

I use Radio Control to save on battery power, however if I am at home, and the phone is plugged in, I would prefer that the radio did not turn off. Would this be a difficult feature to add?

Dear Mr. Chris

I have installed the Radio Control on my Treo 650 and a soft reset. However, beside changing on/off and the hours, the program don't do anything else. I have played with the on/off "switch" but nothing happened. Can you please tell me what I am doing wrong. This is the first time I install this program.
Tnx.

RC clears alarms

Hi,

One thing I noticed is that if I have some alarms that I've not cleared yet RC will clear them when turning on the radio on my treo 650. Have you run into this?

Thanks for a cool utility!

Jim

Hi Jim, Thanks for the com

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the comments. I've not run into this, and the way I understand Palm's alarms I don't think it is possible for RC to clear other alarms - in fact, if there are uncleared alarms they should actually keep RC from working until they are cleared.

Of course, since you're on a 650 and I've not read up much on PalmOS 5, things certainly could have changed.

Upgrade it

Chris I emailed you somewhere else but now that you have your own site here is my question. Is there anyway you can upgrade your program to include different times for each day and if it wouldn't be asking too much, if you could also add many on off times for each day. The program I loved was treotool for treo 600 but I now own a treo 650 and it doesn't work on that. The software developer has refused to answer any of my emails. It would be great if you could develop a similar program. I have many scheduled meetings each day along with church on the weekends and I also have my phone on at 800 am and off at 1100 pm every day so you can see why such a program would be great. I'm sure I'm not the only one that does this and would want such a program. Please let me know by email. Thanks Bill

Probably not :(

Hi Bill,

While I can see the benefit of your suggestion, one of the things that I think works well for Radio Control is its simplicity. I think adding in the capability of multiple on/off times for each day would add considerably to the complexity of the app, so I'm hesitant to consider it.

That said, I do plan on building an updated version of RC that will allow for two schedules, weekday and weekend. Perhaps this will be of some help.

Chris
